Desserts Valentine's Day - Chocolate and Walnut Macarons

Cooking Time: 20 minutes, plus cooling
Ingredients
- 2 large egg whites
- 150g icing sugar, sieved
- 40g cocoa powder, sieved
- 50g dark chocolate, roughly chopped
- 75g roughly chopped walnuts
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1 orange, zested
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
Method

Preheat the oven to 180°C/fan 160°C/ gas mark 4. Grease and line a 2 large baking sheets or use non stick baking trays.

Whisk the egg whites until thick and softly peaked.

Tip icing sugar and cocoa onto the egg whites and whisk together.

Add the chopped chocolate and walnuts, a pinch of salt, orange zest and the vanilla extract and mix once more.

Place spoonfuls of the mixture onto the baking sheets, leaving a little gap between each one. Place in the oven to bake for 20 minutes until just set.

Allow to cool totally before serving.
